Warp & weft woven carpet yarns

Don & Low offer a wide range of polypropylene Carpet Yarns for Axminster and Wilton woven carpets, comprising chain-warp yarns and both twisted and untwisted weft yarns.

The weft yarns are made of a tightly controlled low-shrink specification, which enables them to be used in traditionally woven carpets without causing shrinkage of the carpet during latex or starch finishing.

Compared with natural fibres such as jute or cotton, polypropylene yarns offer greater bulk and an increased running length per kilo.

Key features

  • Polypropylene yarns require far fewer beam changes in weaving and there are less stoppages due to weft breaks
  • Weft yarns are more uniform and even than jute yarns
  • The more uniform tex count of polypropylene yarn gives a more level pile height in the carpet and saves expensive pile yarn, due to reduced pile shearing
  • Polypropylene carpet yarns are water resistant and free from attack by moulds and fungus, which would quickly rot jute and cotton backed carpets
  • Polypropylene yarns are suitable for heavy duty contract areas
